'Gaia', by Aimee Rytenskild depicts a female figure laying horizontally across the canvas. She props herself up with one hand, and rests her other hand on her pregnant stomach.
 
Her clothing is adorned with native flora and fauna, such as kangaroo paws, gum nuts and banksia's, which cascade over her body. Similarly, her hair is a flowing train of native flora that sweeps across the top of the canvas.
 
'Gaia' is an exploration of the concept of 'mother nature', and the connection between the social perception of 'femininity', and our understanding of the natural world. This piece also serves as a celebration of the female form and its ability to create life.
